UNFCCC, COP 28 - Sustainable Food Systems in the GCC: Think Global, Act Local

COP28 - A Focus on Food Systems Like Never Before.

COP28 has spotlighted food and agricultural systems like never before, recognizing their profound potential to drive powerful and innovative responses to climate change. December 10th marked the first-ever dedicated day at COP for Food, Agriculture, and Water.

HealthyPath, in partnership with Thought for Food and The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, hosted an event on “Sustainable Food Systems in the GCC: Think Global, Act Local” to foster a more collaborative approach between the GCC countries and global entities and enhance cross-knowledge sharing for food system transformation. Key participating entities were EIT Food, World Economic Forum, Goumbouk, Green Queen Media, International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas, UNIDO and Wageningen University & Research. The session concluded that the GCC region has the potential to become a global hub.

This potential is unlocked through proactive governmental initiatives, laying the groundwork for a transformative food system. It is further propelled by heightened research efforts, providing a robust foundation for informed policymaking, and the establishment of comprehensive capability-building programs to foster innovation.
